Vanguard Awards For Bonzai Records And Kozzmozz

red bull elektropedia vanguard awards 2011On November 12, four Belgian club and/or electronic music pioneers will join the ranks of Front 242, Telex, Mo & Benoelie, Peter Decuypere, Marc Meulemans, Soulwax, Herman Gilllis and the founding fathers/mothers of R&S (Renaat Vandepapeliere & Sabine Maes), USA Import (José Pascual & Frie Verhelst), 10 Days Of Techno (Rudy Victor Ackaert, Philip De Liser & Eric Smout). Ladies and gentlemen, meet this year's recipients of the Red Bull Elektropedia Vanguard Award.

Leo Bruynoghe & Mathias Kerckhof (Kozzmozz

Last year Kozzmozz celebrated its 15th anniversary - proving it is still a (major) force to be reckoned with. The party continues to sell out Vooruit (Ghent) and it also hosts one of the most popular stages at Tomorrowland. In December 2010 Kozzmozz head honcho Mathias Kerckhof listed his 15 most memorable K-moments - he is one of this year's Red Bull Elektropedia Award recipients; alongside Leo Bruynoghe, better known as Kozz, who co-launched the Kozzmozz parties.

Christian Pieters & Marnik Braeckevelt (Bonzai Records)

When we talk about Belgian dance music and more specifically the 90s era, it's impossible to ignore the massive impact of Bonzai Records. Thunderball's Bonzai Channel One, Jones & Stephenson's The First Rebirth and Push's trance classic Universal Nation are just three of many classics that helped solidify Bonzai's status as one of the hottest dance labels on the planet. Therefore we are proud to salute the label's masterminds Christian Pieters (Fly) and Marnik Braeckevelt.

David & Stephen Dewaele (Special Vanguard Award)

Where do we begin when it comes to the Dewaele brothers? It's been almost a decade since they've reinvented the mixtape or DJing in general with their groundbreaking compilation As Heard On Radio Soulwax Pt. 2 - which is why they were already presented with a Red Bull Elektropedia Vanguard Award in 2010. But instead of repeating the same old DJ tricks for years to come, the brothers kept on buying and collecting records - resulting in an astonishing Radio Soulwax station and smart-phone app. Whether it's American hardcore, Belgian new beat, Balearic disco or Brazilian psychedelica, the pair (and their creative team) box up cult classics in an audiovisual way that adds another level to the word 'übercool'. That is why we are presenting them with a Special Vanguard Awards this year - for creating something truly remarkable and unique.
