Behind the Scenes: Glints is back in (live) business

That feeling of finally being able to go back on stage after more than six months of isolation.

Having to cancel all your planned shows is something every artist in Belgium had to deal with since the beginning of the lockdown. After an unusually quiet six months, some artists have been getting small opportunities to play summer bars or livestreams. Still, none of those praiseworthy initiatives compares to the real deal. For Glints, who had planned to play all the big festivals in the country, the headline show at a reduced-capacity Openluchttheater Rivierenhof (OLT) in Antwerp was as close as you can get to a 'classic' live show experience. Still, 400 people had an absolute blast. Armed with a camera, our photographer Annika Wallis followed the enigmatic rapper throughout the day, tagging along on his first show in months.

"The last time I was on stage was back in March when I presented my album at Ancienne Belgique", Glints says. "I don't have a clue of what it's going to be like if I'm honest".

"It feels strange to get back out there. I hope people will have a good time because that really is a requirement if I want to have fun (laughs)".

"The show is going to be a bit different today because I have been releasing new music in the meantime. I'm curious to see how people will react to these tracks. Usually, you can expect some moshpits and stuff like that – but I'll make sure that’s not happening this time".

Producer slash roommate Yello Staelens (aka Yong Yello) is excited too. "It's a fantastic moment to be out here working on a show again finally. Just setting up the stage and sound already felt great. At the same time, it's a bittersweet atmosphere because it's not really a packed venue".

"Normally, a Glints show is all about a loud sound system, a dark venue and high energy, so it's not exactly the same", Yello continues. "That said, I can see that he is stoked to be on stage again. You have to adapt. We can't just wait around until everything turns back to the way it used to be – you never know how long we'll be in this situation".

"I can't find my words anymore, it was a long set", Glints says after the show. "That was a lot more fun than I expected it to be. People were hungry for a good time, and I'm glad I was able to deliver. On to the next one"!
